천국의 모든 것과 사람의 모든 것 간에는 어떤 상응이 존재한다

그러므로 상응의 개념과 본질을 설명해야 할 필요가 있다. 그것(a perception of what correspondence is)을 모르면, 영계(the spiritual world), 영계에서 자연계(the natural world)로 흘러드는 입류(inflow), 영계와 자연계의 상관관계, 사람의 영혼(the spirit of man, which is called the soul)과 그것이 몸에 작용하는 방식, 사람의 사후 상태(man’s state after death) 등에 대해 명확히 알 수 없기 때문이다. 상응에 대한 설명은 앞으로 나올 내용의 기초이기도 하다. Since, then, without a perception of what correspondence is there can be no clear knowledge of the spiritual world or of its inflow into the natural world, neither of what the spiritual is in its relation to the natural, nor any clear knowledge of the spirit of man, which is called the soul, and its operation into the body, neither of man’s state after death, it is necessary to explain what correspondence is and the nature of it. This will prepare the way for what is to follow.
