천국과 지상의 모든 것 간에 어떤 상응이 존재한다

There Is a Correspondence of Heaven with All Things of the Earth

식물에도 그러한 상응이 있다. 일반적으로 뜰은 천국의 지성과 지혜에 상응한다. 그래서 천국을 신의 뜨락, 또는 낙원이라고 하고, 사람들은 천국을 하늘 낙원이라고 부른다.주79 나무는 그 종류별로 지성과 지혜의 근원인 선과 진리의 감지 능력과 인식 능력에 상응한다. 그래서 고대 사람들은 상응 지식이 있었으므로 산림에 들어가 하나님을 예배했다.주80 같은 이유로, 성경에 포도나무, 올리브, 백향목과 그 밖의 나무가 자주 언급되고, 천국과 교회와 사람이 나무에 비유되며, 선행이 열매에 비유되는 것이다. 또 나무에서 나는 먹을 것, 특히 들에서 거두는 곡식은 선과 진리에 대한 여러 애정에 상응한다.주81 지상의 양식이 자연적 생명에 영양을 주듯, 선과 진리에 대한 애정은 영적 생명에 영양을 주기 때문이다. 따라서 삶을 지탱하는 주요 식량이며, 음식 전체를 상징하는 떡(빵)은 일반적으로 모든 선에 대한 애정에 상응한다. 이 상응에 따라 주님도 당신을 생명의 떡이라 하셨고, 유대교는 덩어리 빵을 성물로 삼아 성막 상 위에 두고 ‘진설병’(陳設餠, the bread of faces)이라 불렀다. 희생과 번제로 드린 모든 거룩한 제사도 역시 ‘떡’(bread)이라 불렸다. 더욱이 이 상응 때문에, 떡과 포도주로 행하는 성찬식이 기독교의 가장 거룩한 성례인 것이다.주82 이 몇 가지 보기들로 상응의 본질을 분명히 알 수 있을 것이다. There is a like correspondence with things in the vegetable kingdom. In general, a garden corresponds to the intelligence and wisdom of heaven; and for this reason heaven is called the Garden of God, and Paradise;79 and men call it the heavenly paradise. Trees, according to their species, correspond to the perceptions and knowledges of good and truth which are the source of intelligence and wisdom. For this reason the ancient people, who were acquainted with correspondences, held their sacred worship in groves;80 and for the same reason trees are so often mentioned in the Word, and heaven, the church, and man are compared to them; as the vine, the olive, the cedar, and others, and the good works done by men are compared to fruits. Also the food derived from trees, and more especially from the grain harvests of the field, corresponds to affections for good and truth, because these affections feed the spiritual life, as the food of the earth does the natural life;81 and bread from grain, in a general sense, because it is the food that specially sustains life, and because it stands for all food, corresponds to an affection for all good. It is on account of this correspondence that the Lord calls himself the bread of life; and that loaves of bread had a holy use in the Israelitish church, being placed on the table in the tabernacle and called “the bread of faces”; also the Divine worship that was performed by sacrifices and burnt offerings was called “bread.” Moreover, because of this correspondence the most holy act of worship in the Christian church is the Holy Supper, in which bread is given, and wine.82 From these few examples the nature of correspondence can be seen.

 

 

주79. 상응으로부터 정원과 낙원은 지성과 지혜를 의미한다. From correspondence a garden and a paradise signify intelligence and wisdom (n. 100, 108); 경험으로부터 from experience (n. 3220). 상응 가운데 있는 모든 것은 말씀에서 그와 동일한 의미, 상징을 가진다. All things that have a correspondence have in the Word the same significance (n. 2896, 2987, 2989–2991, 3002, 3225).

 

 

주80. 나무는 퍼셉션과 지식을 의미한다. Trees signify perceptions and knowledges (n. 103, 2163, 2682, 2722, 2972, 7692). 이런 이유로, 고대인들은 숲속 나무 아래에서 그들의 상응에 따라 거룩한 예배를 드렸다. For this reason the ancient people held Divine worship in groves under trees according to their correspondence (n. 2722, 4552). 나무, 식물 같은 식물계 안으로 흘러들어오는 입류 Influx of heaven into subjects of the vegetable kingdom, as into trees and plants (n. 3648).

주82. 빵은 사람의 영적 생명에 영양을 주는 모든 선을 의미한다. Bread signifies every good that nourishes the spiritual life of man (n. 2165, 2177, 3478, 3735, 3813, 4211, 4217, 4735, 4976, 9323, 9545, 10686). 그것이 성막 상 위에 놓였던 진설병이 상징하는 것이다. Such was the signification of the loaves that were on the table in the tabernacle (n. 3478, 9545). 희생제물을 일반적으로 빵이라고 했다. Sacrifices in general were called bread (n. 2165). 빵은 모든 먹을 것을 포함한다. Bread includes all food (n. 2165). 그래서 빵은 모든 천적이고 영적인 먹을 것을 상징한다. Thus it signifies all heavenly and spiritual food (n. 276, 680, 2165, 2177, 3478, 6118, 8410).
