※ AC.348, 창4:3, '세월이 지난 후에 가인은 땅의 소산으로'(AC.346-349) - ‘땅의 소산’의 속뜻, 체어리티 없는 신앙 행위들

3절, 세월이 지난 후에 가인은 땅의 소산으로 제물을 삼아 여호와께 드렸고 And at the end of days it came to pass that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering to Jehovah.

‘땅의 소산’이 체어리티 없는 신앙 행위들을 의미한다는 건 또한 다음과 같이 이어지는 내용으로도 알 수 있는데요, 체어리티 없는 신앙 행위들은 절대 신앙 행위라고 할 수 없는, 그 자체로 죽은 것이기 때문입니다. 그런 건 그저 겉 사람에게 속한 행위들이기 때문입니다. 이런 것에 관해 예레미야에 기록된 말씀입니다. That by the “fruit of the ground” are meant the works of faith without charity, appears also from what follows; for the works of faith devoid of charity are works of no faith, being in themselves dead, for they are solely of the external man. Of such it is written in Jeremiah:

1여호와여 내가 주와 변론할 때에는 주께서 의로우시니이다 그러나 내가 주께 질문하옵나니 악한 자의 길이 형통하며 반역한 자가 다 평안함은 무슨 까닭이니이까 2주께서 그들을 심으시므로 그들이 뿌리가 박히고 장성하여 열매를 맺었거늘 그들의 입은 주께 가까우나 그들의 마음은 머니이다 4언제까지 이 땅이 슬퍼하며 온 지방의 채소가 마르리이까 짐승과 새들도 멸절하게 되었사오니 이는 이 땅 주민이 악하여 스스로 말하기를 그가 우리의 나중 일을 보지 못하리라 함이니이다 (렘12:1-2, 4) Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? Thou hast planted them, they also have taken root; they have gone on, they also bear fruit; thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins; how long shall the land mourn, and the herb of every field wither? (Jer. 12:1–2, 4)

‘그들의 입은 주께 가까우나 그들의 마음은 머니이다’는 체어리티와 분리된 신앙의 사람들, ‘이 땅이 슬퍼하며’라는 말을 듣는 사람들에 관한 걸 가리킵니다. 같은 예언서에서 이런 행위들을 ‘행실대로’라 하고 있습니다. “Near in the mouth, but far from the reins” denotes those who are of faith separated from charity, concerning whom it is said that “the land mourns.” In the same prophet such works are called the “fruit of works”:

9만물보다 거짓되고 심히 부패한 것은 마음이라 누가 능히 이를 알리요마는 10나 여호와는 심장을 살피며 폐부를 시험하고 각각 그의 행위와 그의 행실대로 보응하나니 (렘17:9-10) The heart is deceitful [supplantativum] above all things, and it is desperate, who can know it? I Jehovah search the heart, I try the reins, even to give to every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his works. (Jer. 17:9–10)

미가에서 In Micah:

그 땅은 그 주민의 행위의 열매로 말미암아 황폐하리로다 (미7:13) The land shall be desolate because of them that dwell therein, for the fruit of their works. (Micah 7:13)

이런 ‘열매’는 아무 열매도 아니며, 이런 ‘행위’는 죽은 행위라는 사실, 그리고 열매와 뿌리 둘 다 진멸된다는 선언이 아모스서에 나옵니다. That such “fruit” is no fruit, or that the “work” is dead, and that both fruit and root perish, is thus declared in Amos:

내가 아모리 사람을 그들 앞에서 멸하였나니 그 키는 백향목 높이와 같고 강하기는 상수리나무 같으나 내가 그 위의 열매와 그 아래의 뿌리를 진멸하였느니라 (암2:9) I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath. (Amos 2:9)

그리고 시편에서 And in David:

왕이 그들의 후손을 땅에서 멸함이여 그들의 자손을 사람 중에서 끊으리로다 (시21:10) Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from the sons of man. (Ps. 21:10)

그러나 체어리티의 행위들은 살아 있으며, 이런 행위들은 이사야에 보면 선포하기를, 그들은 ‘아래로 뿌리를 박고 위로 열매를 맺으리니’라 하고 있습니다. But the works of charity are living, and of them it is declared that they “take root downward, and bear fruit upward;” as in Isaiah:

유다 족속 중에 피하여 남은 자는 다시 아래로 뿌리를 박고 위로 열매를 맺으리니 (사37:31) The remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. (Isa. 37:31)

‘위로 열매를 맺으리니’는 체어리티로 행하는 것입니다. 같은 예언서에서, 그런 열매를 일컬어 ‘영화로운 소산’이라 하고 있습니다. To “bear fruit upward” is to act from charity. Such fruit is called the “fruit of excellence,” in the same prophet:

그 날에 여호와의 싹이 아름답고 영화로울 것이요 그 땅의 소산은 이스라엘의 피난한 자를 위하여 영화롭고 아름다울 것이며 (사4:2) In that day shall the shoot of Jehovah be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. (Isa. 4:2)

이는 또한 ‘구원의 열매’로, 같은 예언서에서 그렇게 부르고 있습니다. It is also the “fruit of salvation,” and is so called by the same prophet:

하늘이여 위로부터 공의를 뿌리며 구름이여 의를 부을지어다 땅이여 열려서 구원을 싹트게 하고 공의도 함께 움돋게 할지어다 나 여호와가 이 일을 창조하였느니라 (사45:8) Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness; let the earth open, and let them bring forth the fruit of salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I Jehovah will create it. (Isa. 45:8)

‘세월이 지난 후에’는 시간의 경과를, ‘땅의 소산’은 체어리티 없는 신앙 행위들을, ‘여호와께 드리는 제물’은 그런 신앙으로 드리는 예배를 의미합니다. By the “end of days” is meant in process of time; by the “fruit of the ground,” the works of faith without charity; and by “an offering to Jehovah,” worship thence derived.
