여기 ‘땅’(ground)이 종파나 이단을 말한다는 건 ‘들’(field)이 교리를 가리키며, 그래서 들을 자신의 일부로 하는 ‘땅’은 일종의 종파라는 사실로 분명합니다. 사람 자체가 ‘땅’이요, 또한 ‘들’입니다. 이런 것들이 사람 안에서 수정(受精)되기 때문인데요, 사람은 그 안에서 수정되는 게 무엇이냐에 따라 그런 사람이 됩니다. 선과 진리로 수정된 사람은 선하고 진실한 사람이 되고, 악과 거짓으로 수정된 사람은 악하고 거짓된 사람이 됩니다. 어떤 특별한 교리나 이단 가운데 있는 사람은 나중에 그 이름으로 부르게 되는데요, 그래서 지금 이 본문에 나오는 ‘땅’이라는 용어도 종종 사람의 어떤 종파나 이단을 가리키기 위해 사용되곤 하는 것입니다. That the “ground” here signifies a schism or heresy, is evident from the fact that a “field” signifies doctrine, and therefore the “ground,” having the field in it, is a schism. Man himself is the “ground,” and also the “field,” because these things are inseminated in him, for man is man from what is inseminated in him, a good and true man from goods and truths, an evil and false man from evils and falsities. He who is in any particular doctrine or heresy is named from it, and so in the passage before us the term “ground” is used to denote a schism or heresy in man.
