※ ‘구리와 쇠로 여러 가지 기구를 만드는 자’의 속뜻, 자연적 선과 진리에 친숙한 사람들

22절, 씰라는 두발가인을 낳았으니 그는 구리와 쇠로 여러 가지 기구를 만드는 자요 두발가인의 누이는 나아마였더라 And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron; and the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.

말씀에서 ‘기능공’(an artificer)은 지혜롭고 지성적이며, 박식한 사람을 의미하는데, 여기 ‘구리와 쇠를 다루는 모든 기능공들’은 자연적 선과 진리에 친숙한 사람들을 의미합니다. 계시록입니다. By an “artificer” in the Word is signified a wise, intelligent, and well-informed [sciens] man, and here by “every artificer in brass and iron” are signified those who are acquainted with natural good and truth. As in John:

21이에 한 힘 센 천사가 큰 맷돌 같은 돌을 들어 바다에 던져 이르되 큰 성 바벨론이 이같이 비참하게 던져져 결코 다시 보이지 아니하리로다 22또 거문고 타는 자와 풍류하는 자와 퉁소 부는 자와 나팔 부는 자들의 소리가 결코 다시 네 안에서 들리지 아니하고 어떠한 세공업자든지 결코 다시 네 안에서 보이지 아니하고 또 맷돌 소리가 결코 다시 네 안에서 들리지 아니하고 (계18:21-22) With violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in her; and no artificer, of whatsoever craft, shall be found any more in her. (Rev. 18:21–22)

여기 ‘거문고 타는 자’는 위에서처럼 진리들을, ‘나팔 부는 자들’은 신앙의 선들을, ‘어떠한 세공업자든지’는 알고 있는 자, 곧 진리와 선에 관해 단지 지식으로만 알고 있는 사람을 의미합니다. 이사야입니다. “Harpers” here as above signify truths; “trumpeters,” the goods of faith; an “artificer of any craft,” one who knows, or the memory-knowledge of truth and good. In Isaiah:

19우상은 장인이 부어 만들었고 장색이 금으로 입혔고 또 은 사슬을 만든 것이니라 20궁핍한 자는 거제를 드릴 때에 썩지 아니하는 나무를 택하고 지혜로운 장인을 구하여 우상을 만들어 흔들리지 아니하도록 세우느니라 (사40:19-20) The artificer melteth a graven image, and the smelter spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains; he seeketh unto him a wise artificer, to prepare a graven image that shall not be moved, (Isa. 40:19–20)

환상에 빠져 자기를 위해 거짓된 것, ‘우상’(a graven image)을 새기고, 그것을 참인 양 가르치는 자들에 관한 말씀입니다. 예레미야입니다. speaking of those who from fantasy forge for themselves what is false—a “graven image”—and teach it so that it appears true. In Jeremiah:

1이스라엘 집이여 여호와께서 너희에게 이르시는 말씀을 들을지어다, 8그들은 다 무지하고 어리석은 것이니 우상의 가르침은 나무뿐이라 9다시스에서 가져온 은박과 우바스에서 가져온 금으로 꾸미되 기술공과 은장색의 손으로 만들었고 청색 자색 옷을 입었나니 이는 정교한 솜씨로 만든 것이거니와 (렘10:1, 8-9) At the same time as they are infatuated they grow foolish, the doctrine of vanities, it is but a stock. Silver beaten out is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the artificer, and of the hands of the smelter; blue and raiment; they are all the work of the wise, (Jer. 10:1, 8–9)

거짓들을 가르치고, 자기가 지어낸 이야기를 위조하기 위하여 말씀을 수집하는 자에 관한 말씀이며, 이런 이유로, 이를 가리켜 ‘우상의 가르침’, ‘정교한 솜씨로 만든 것’이라 하고 있습니다. signifying one who teaches falsities, and collects from the Word things with which to forge his invention, wherefore it is called a “doctrine of vanities,” and the “work of the wise.”

※ 오늘날 대표적 이단인 신천지가 생각나네요. 이들은 거룩한 말씀을 해괴한 방식, 곧 교주 이만희를 중심으로 전부 풀면서 거짓을 가르치고 있기 때문입니다.

고대에 이런 인물들은 아이돌, 즉 거짓을 위조하는 장색(匠色, artificer)으로 묘사되었습니다. 이들은 아이돌을 금, 곧 선의 겉모습으로, 은, 곧 진리처럼 보이는 것으로, 청색 옷처럼 누가 보아도 아주 자연적인 것으로 꾸몄습니다. Such persons were represented in ancient times by artificers who forge idols, that is, falsities, which they adorn with gold, that is, with a semblance of good; and with silver, or an appearance of truth; and with blue and with raiment, or such natural things as are in apparent agreement.
