24절, 이같이 하나님이 그 사람을 쫓아내시고 에덴동산 동쪽에 그룹들과 두루 도는 불 칼을 두어 생명 나무의 길을 지키게 하시니라 And he cast out the man; and he made to dwell from the east toward the garden of Eden cherubim, and the flame of a sword turning itself, to keep the way of the tree of lives.

본 절에서, 이들 홍수 전 시대를 산 사람들의 상태가 아주 충분히 설명되었는데요, 그들은 ‘쫓겨났다’, 즉 천적 선으로부터 분리되었다는 점에서, 그리고 ‘그룹들이 동쪽에서부터 에덴동산을 향하여 있었다’라는 점에서 그렇습니다. 이 표현, ‘동쪽에서부터(from) 에덴 동산을 향하여(toward)’라는 표현은 그들에게만 쓸 수 있는 표현입니다. 그후를 산 사람들 관련해서는 쓸 수 없는데, 이들의 경우라면 ‘에덴 동산에서부터(from) 동쪽을 향하여(toward)’라고 했을 겁니다. In this verse, the state of these antediluvians is fully described, in that they were “cast out,” or separated from celestial good, and in that “cherubim were placed from the east toward the garden of Eden.” This expression, “from the east toward the garden of Eden,” is applicable only to them, and could not be used in relation to those who lived afterwards, of whom it would have been said, “from the garden of Eden toward the east.”

 

※ 전자는 천적인 반면, 후자는 영적이기 때문입니다. 천적인 것은 주님, 곧 ‘동쪽’에서부터, 사랑과 선에서부터 시작하지만, 영적인 것은 지성, 곧 ‘동산’에서부터, 신앙과 진리에서부터 시작하기 때문입니다.

 

마찬가지로, 말씀 ‘스스로 도는 검의 화염’이라는 표현을 오늘날 사람들에게 쓰고자 하였다면, ‘스스로 도는 화염의 검’이라고 했을 겁니다. 뿐만 아니라, ‘생명들의 나무’ 역시 ‘생명의 나무’라 했을 것입니다. 설명이 불가능한, 오직 천사들에게만 이해가 되는, 주님이 이들에게는 계시를 드러내시는데요, 이런 일련의 것들에 대해서는 더 이상 드릴 말씀이 없습니다. 모든 상태마다 무한한 아르카나가 들어있는데 심지어 그 중 사람들에게 알려진 단 하나의 아르카나조차 그렇기 때문입니다. In like manner, had the words “the flame of a sword turning itself” been applied to the people of the present day, they would have been “the sword of a flame turning itself.” Nor would it have been said the “tree of lives,” but the “tree of life”; not to mention other things in the series that cannot possibly be explained, being understood only by the angels, to whom the Lord reveals them; for every state contains infinite arcana, not even one of which is known to men.
