완전히 다른 세 천국이 있다. 가장 내적, 즉 세 번째(an inmost or third, 삼층), 중간적, 즉 두 번째(a middle or second, 이층), 가장 외적, 즉 첫 번째(an outmost or first, 일층) 천국이 그것이다. 세 천국은 그 질서와 상관관계가 마치 가장 위쪽 부위인 머리, 중간 부위인 몸통, 가장 아래 부위인 다리로 이루어진 사람의 몸과 같다. 또 집의 상, 중, 하, 세 층과도 같다. 주님께로부터 나온 신성이 이와 똑같은 순서로 진행하고 내려간다. 따라서 질서의 필요에 따라 천국은 세 층으로 되어 있는 것이다. There are three heavens, entirely distinct from each other, an inmost or third, a middle or second, and an outmost or first. These have a like order and relation to each other as the highest part of man, or his head, the middle part, or body, and the lowest, or feet; or as the upper, the middle, and the lower stories of a house. In the same order is the Divine that goes forth and descends from the Lord; consequently heaven, from the necessity of order, is threefold.
