AC.18 설명, ‘흑암이 깊음 위에 있고’(창1:2) (2024/6/13)

 

앞서 ‘혼돈’(混沌, void)은 선이 하나도 없는 상태, ‘공허’(空虛, empty)는 진리가 하나도 없는 상태라 하였고, 뒤이어 오늘 ‘흑암’(黑暗, thick darkness) 상태, 즉 어리석은 상태이지요, 주님 신앙(faith in the Lord)에 속한 모든 것에, 그 결과 영적, 천적(天的, heavenly) 생명에 관한 모든 것에 대해 무지한 상태가 되는 것, 바로 ‘깊음’이 나오는데요, 이와 관련, 다음 글, 곧 지옥의 두 기둥 중 하나인 ‘자기 사랑’에 대한 글을 인용합니다. 한번 둘을 나란히 놓고 오늘 본문을 생각해 보세요.

557. 무엇이 자기 사랑인가는 천국의 사랑과 비교하면 알 수 있다. 천국의 사랑은 쓰임새를 위해 쓰임새를, 즉 선을 위해 선을 사랑하는 것으로 이루어진다. 그 동기는 교회와 조국과 인류 사회와 이웃 시민을 위하는 마음이다. 이것이 하나님과 이웃을 사랑하는 것이다. 모든 쓰임새와 모든 선은 하나님으로부터 오는 것이며, 우리가 사랑해야 할 이웃도 쓰임새와 선이기 때문이다. 그러나 자기 자신을 위해서 이를 사랑하는 사람은 그것이 자신에게 봉사할 수 있기 때문에, 종으로 사랑할 뿐이다. 따라서 자기 사랑 안에 있는 사람은 교회와 나라와 인류 사회와 이웃 시민이 자기에게 봉사하기를 바라고, 자기가 그들에게 봉사하려고는 하지 않는다. 그러므로 사람이 자기 사랑 안에 있는 정도만큼 그는 스스로 천국의 사랑에서 멀어지므로, 그만큼 자신을 천국으로부터 떼어놓는 것이다. What love of self is can be seen by comparing it with heavenly love. Heavenly love consists in loving uses for the sake of uses, or goods for the sake of goods, which are done by man on behalf of the church, his country, human society, and a fellow citizen; for this is loving God and loving the neighbor, since all uses and all goods are from God, and are the neighbor who is to be loved. But he who loves these for the sake of himself loves them merely as servants, because they are serviceable to him; consequently it is the will of one who is in self-love that the church, his country, human societies, and his fellow citizens, should serve him, and not he them, for he places himself above them and places them beneath himself. Therefore so far as anyone is in love of self he separates himself from heaven, because he separates himself from heavenly love.

 

558. 사람이 천국의 사랑 안에 있는 정도만큼 그는 주님의 인도를 받는다. 주님이 그 사랑 안에 계시고, 그 사랑의 근원이시기 때문이다. 천국의 사랑을 이루는 것은 쓰임새와 선을 사랑하는 것이고, 그것을 교회와 나라와 인류 사회와 이웃 시민을 위해 행하면서 마음의 기쁨으로 감동하는 것이다. 그러나 사람은 자기 사랑 안에 있는 정도만큼 자기에게 끌려간다. 그리고 사람은 자기에게 끌려가는 정도만큼 주의 인도를 받지 못한다. 그러므로 사람이 자기를 사랑하는 만큼 스스로를 신성에서 떼어놓고, 따라서 천국에서 떼어놓는 결과가 된다. 자기에게 끌려간다는 것은 자기 본성에 이끌리는 것이다. 사람의 본성은 악을 빼면 아무 것도 없다. 사람의 타고난 악은 하나님보다 자신을 더 사랑하고, 천국보다 세상을 더 사랑하는 것이기 때문이다. 사람이 선을 행하면서 자기를 염두에 두면, 그때마다 자기 본성, 즉 자기가 타고난 악 속으로 들어가게 된다. 왜냐하면, 그럴 때 그는 자신에게서 눈을 돌려 선을 바라보지 않고, 선에서 눈을 돌려 자기를 바라보기 때문이며, 따라서 그의 선 안에 하나님의 형상이 아니라 자기의 형상을 만들기 때문이다. Furthermore, so far as anyone is in heavenly love, which consists in loving uses and goods and being moved by delight of heart when doing them for the sake of the church, country, human society, and one’s fellow citizens, he is so far led by the Lord, because that love is the love in which the Lord is, and which is from him. But so far as anyone is in the love of self, which consists in performing uses and goods for the sake of himself, so far he is led by himself; and so far as anyone is led by himself he is not led by the Lord. And from this it also ollows that so far as anyone loves himself he separates himself from the Divine, thus also from heaven. To be led by oneself is to be led by what is one’s own; and what is man’s own is nothing but evil; for man’s inherited evil consists in loving self more than God, and the world more than heaven. Whenever man looks to himself in the good that he does he is let into what is his own, that is, into his inherited evils; for he then looks from good to himself and from himself to good, and therefore he presents an image of himself in his good, and not an image of the Divine.

천국은 선과 진리의 나라이지만, 지옥은 그와 정반대, 곧 악과 거짓의 나라입니다. 다른 말로는, 천국은 ‘주님 사랑’, ‘이웃 사랑’의 나라이지만, 지옥은 ‘자기 사랑’, ‘세상 사랑’의 나라입니다.

 

천국의 필수 요소인 선과 진리가 없는 상태, 곧 아직 거듭남이 시작되지 않은 사람들의 상태를 이해하기 위해 지옥에 있는 사람들의 상태를 잠시 살펴보았습니다.
