※ 우리가 분명히 알아야 할 것은, 천사들이 어느 천국에 있게 되는가는 그들의 내면에 따라 결정된다는 점이다. 즉 그들의 보다 깊은 내면이 주님을 향해 열려 있을수록 그들은 더 내적인 천국에 있는 것이다.

세 천국이 있다

우리가 분명히 알아야 할 것은, 천사들이 어느 천국에 있게 되는가는 그들의 내면에 따라 결정된다는 점이다. 즉 그들의 보다 깊은 내면이 주님을 향해 열려 있을수록 그들은 더 내적인 천국에 있는 것이다. 각 천사와 영과 사람의 내면에는 세 단계(three degrees of interiors)가 있다. 셋째 단계가 열린 사람은 가장 내적 천국에 있다. 둘째 단계가 열린 사람은 중간 천국에, 첫 단계만 열린 사람은 가장 외적 천국에 있다. 이 단계들은 신적 선과 신적 진리를 받아들이는 정도에 따라 열린다. 신적 진리에 감동하고 즉시 생활에 옮기는, 따라서 진리를 직접 그들의 의지와 행동 안으로(into the will and into action therefrom) 받아들이는 사람은 가장 내적 천국인 삼층천에 있다. 그 안에서도 진리에 대한 애정으로 선을 받아들이는 정도에 따라 자리가 정해진다. 한편, 진리를 직접 의지로 받아들이지 않고, 일단 기억했다가 그 다음에 생각을 해보고, 나중에 의지와 행동 안으로 받아들이는 사람들은 중간 천국인 이층천에 있다. 도덕적으로 살았고, 신적 존재를 믿었지만, 진리를 배우는 데 별로 관심이 없었던 사람들은 가장 외적 천국인 일층천에 있다.주39 이상으로 사람의 내면 상태가 천국을 이룬다는 것과, 천국은 사람 안에 있는 것이지 밖에 있는 것이 아니라는 것을 확실히 알 수 있을 것이다. 주님도 그것을 다음과 같이 가르치셨다. Let it be clearly understood that with the angels it is the interiors that cause them to be in one heaven or another; for as their interiors are more open to the Lord they are in a more interior heaven. There are three degrees of interiors in each angel and spirit, and also in man. Those in whom the third degree is opened are in the inmost heaven. Those in whom the second degree is opened, or only the first, are in the middle or in the outmost heaven. The interiors are opened by reception of Divine good and Divine truth. Those who are affected by Divine truths and admit them at once into the life, thus into the will and into action therefrom, are in the inmost or third heaven, and have their place there in accordance with their reception of good from affection for truth. Those who do not admit truths at once into the will but into the memory, and thence into the understanding, and from the understanding will and do them, are in the middle or second heaven. But those who live morally and who believe in a Divine, and who care very little about being taught, are in the outmost or first heaven.39 From this it is clear that the states of the interiors are what make heaven, and that heaven is within everyone, and not outside of him; as the Lord teaches when he says:

 

20바리새인들이 하나님의 나라가 어느 때에 임하나이까 묻거늘 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 하나님의 나라는 볼 수 있게 임하는 것이 아니요 21또 여기 있다 저기 있다고도 못하리니 하나님의 나라는 너희 안에 있느니라 (눅17:20, 21) The kingdom of God cometh not with observation, neither shall they say, Lo here, or Lo there; for behold the kingdom of God ye have within you (Luke 17:20, 21).

 

 

주39. 천국들처럼 사람 안의 생명에도 여러 단계가 있다. 이들 단계는 사후, 그의 생명 상태에 따라 열린다. There are as many degrees of life in man as there are heavens, and these are opened after death in accordance with his life (n. 3747, 9594). 천국은 사람 안에 있다. Heaven is in man (n. 3884). 그러므로 세상에서 자기 안에 천국을 받아들인 사람은 사후, 천국에 간다. Therefore he that has received heaven into himself in the world, comes into heaven after death (n. 10717).
